You may present your library card to check out library books at
circulation desks. Please refer to the table of Loan Quotas and Loan
Periods for your detailed loan privileges.
Generally, books in individual libraries can only be borrowed and requested by the valid users of the owning libraries according to their policies. However, books in the Social Science and Humanities Library and the Medical Library can be borrowed by all the patrons on campus.
Note: You will not be able to borrow, renew or request books when your account is locked or when there is any overdue books or big fines on your account.
Most books can be renewed online by yourself. Renewal will only be accepted within 14 days before the due date. After the renewal, the due date will be postponed for another general loan period counting from the renewal day. Overdue books can not be renewed.
You may place a hold on it, in which case you will be notified by email once the book is returned. The returned book will be reserved for you to pick up for 3 days.
If a hold has been placed on one of your books, you may not renew it. All loaned books are subject to be recalled after 28 days' usage. If one of your library books has been recalled, you will be notified of the new due dates by email. You must return the book by the shortened due date in order to avoid fines.
You may register your email address on the website of Tsinghua University Library at http://www.lib.tsinghua.edu.cn/NEW/OPACemail.html. Then, you will receive an e-mail notification if your book is overdue, recalled, or the book you requested has returned.
An overdue fine begins accruing as soon as the book is overdue and is charged to your account when the book is returned.

Book theft will be reported to the university, and be seriously punished with corresponding disciplines. Taking books out of circulation desks or reading rooms without checking out will be regarded as attempted theft.
